Difference between Server Roles and Features

Server roles define the primary functions and responsibilities of a server within a network.

while Server features are optional software components that can be installed to enhance the server’s capabilities

Lab Steps:

Click on Add Roles and Features

Selection Role based Feature

Choose the Server

Check Web Server (IIS)

Related services for Web Server will be automatically selected, simply hit Next

Check on Restart automatically if required option on the top and at the bottom you can export your configuration and save it as an xml file. This file can be used on a different server to run the same action.

Click Install and it will install Microsoft Web Sever IIS Role in the Server.

Web Sever IIS Role has been successfully installed on the Server
