Difference Between Shared Mailbox and Distribution List
Shared Mailbox: If you need readers to be able to interact with your team but don’t necessarily need a full suite of features, this may be a good option for your team.
Shared Mailboxes enable users to reply to messages and let anyone who has access to the mailbox see those responses.
- Does not need a license
- It is a separate Mailbox with its inbox, Sent and Draft.
- User given full access will see it in their outlook as separate Mailbox
- User can also be given send as permission to shared mailbox in order to sent email on behalf of the Shared Mailbox address apart from the owner of the shared Mailbox
- Deleting email by one user of the shared mailbox will delete email for all the users

Distribution List: A distribution list is an email address that is used to message a group of recipients.
You can use them when delivering information when you don’t need to open a conversation about how the reader received it.
- Do not require a license
- Deleting email will only delete email for the particular member
- User are not able to send email using the email address of the DL
